Pale Ale was the first brew Boulevard ever produced. It is well documented in my mind, and now here in print, that I am not crazy about pale ales. Boulevard's is one of the few exceptions for me: it's pretty sweet, has a lot of hops, and finishes pretty nicely (which is my chief complaint with most pale ales). It has 5.4% ABV.
It goes well with fatty foods and foods with a vinegar base (like barbecue if you used real sauce like they do in Memphis...take THAT Kansas City!), as well as any food that is extremely spicy (and not just flaming spicy...I mean spicy like, "there are a crapload of spices in this"). I had it recently on tap with a delicious Bavarian pretzel/white cheddar fondue/sliced green apples plate, and it was fantastic in that setting as well.
I would never recommend a pale ale to anyone at any time, because it's not my cup of tea (or my glass of beer for that matter). But if I had a gun to my head, whether I'm the one holding it or not, I would cheerfully suggest Boulevard Pale Ale, and not just to appease the gunman. If you're going to drink a pale ale, this is one.
