The only numbers most beer drinkers probably care about is how much beer is left in their fridge and I can understand that. I keep an eye on my stash as well, but I have a bit of fascination with trivia so I'm always on the lookout for that kind of thing.
For instance, do you know how many barrels of craft beer were brewed last year? 8.6 million. At 31 gallons per barrel, that comes out to a whopping 266,600,000 gallons of brew. That's really not a whole lot actually. That's a little over a gallon for every man, woman and child. That's about two six packs (give or take an ounce or two) each for a year.
Or how about this: Even with all of that, that is still 6.3 percent of the total amount of dollars spent on beer in 2008.
Even more interesting is the breweries per capita by state.
Here is a snapshot of the first 20
Vermont is number one! Who knew?
Here, for your amusement, is my source for all of this trivia and more.
