In Summertime, when the weather turns hot and you could boil water out on the asphalt, there's nothing like a big slice of ice cold watermelon to help cool you down. And when you've been working out in the yard all day, nothing refreshes like a nice hefeweizen.
What if you could somehow combine those two summertime coolers into one? It would be the ultimate summer refresher!
21st Amendment makes a good run at it.
The pour is a cloudy light amber with a small head. The nose is bready with the expected melon aroma. It had a medium body and low carbonation which was OK, but I expected more. The flavor was actually quite good. You could definitely taste the watermelon in there. Between the crispness of the wheat, the sweetness of the melon and a small bite of hops on the finish, it was actually quite good. With each sip, it seemed that it might just be a little off and than that watermelon rolls over your taste buds and wakes them up. Before you know it, you've finished the glass and you're thinking about pouring another.
Overall, it's a great seasonal beer. I will definitely buy it again but not in the winter. Give me a nice Russian Imperial Stout when the snow starts to fly.
Cheers!
