Today, while I was at the Base Exchange on McChord AFB, I spotted a stack of 12 packs of Oskar Blues Dales Pale Ale for $5.99. I figured it might be dated (and it was), but I bought it anyway. I also bought a sixer of Samuel Adams Summer Ale. It's a good hot weather brew that will quench that après lawn mow thirst.
I chilled a few cans of the Dale's and thought I'd have one for dinner and maybe one later on.
I poured the beer into a glass and ended with a proper head. It smelled like citrus and grass and it poured a nice amber color. It actually tasted quite good! The malt sweetness was there followed by a nice citrusy, hoppy finish. It seemed a tiny bit flat, but the mouth feel was medium. There was good lacing all down the glass. Not too bad for a pale ale.
We had a guest over for dinner. Her husband is an army officer deployed overseas to the Balkans. I offered her a can and she didn't finish it. She said it seemed flat to her. I poured myself one more and again, I got a decent head and aroma, but sure enough, not a lot of bubble action. It didn't taste flat, but it sure looked it.
If I just went by taste alone, I'd have to say it was quite good. I'm not going to throw the rest away, but I will be on the look out for some fresher Dales's Pale Ale to try.
Cheers!
